When he was born on August 14, 1966, his parents Johnny Hallyday and Sylvie Vartan were 24 and 22 years old, and had been married for a year. Both at the start of their respective careers, the two youth idols had loved each other passionately for 15 years. And their breakup, their only son, David, remembers it well. He was 14 years old.
“A violent argument broke out between my parents“
In “My best album”, his autobiography which he unveiled on November 22, it reveals the details of a night where everything changed between the Hallyday spouses. And to remember: “One night, in Avoriaz, a violent argument broke out between my parents. […] I remember feeling terribly uncomfortable. […] That evening was the last time I saw my parents together.”
And to add: “Love sometimes ends in the glass, of which, we discover, it has fragility.” He who also experienced the pain of divorce – from the mother of his 2 daughters, Ilona and Emma, Estelle Lefébure – predicted the end of his parents’ love story.
“My mother thought I was traumatized”
He admits in fact: “I had understood for some time that they no longer got along, and that this disagreement was undermining them, preventing them from being happy.” And to add: “For a long time, my mother thought I had been traumatized by this separation. In truth, this was not the case. On the contrary, all this seemed inevitable to me, and even positive.“.
And for good reason, for her part, Sylvie Vartan was able to remarry Tony Scotti, with whom she had adopted Darina. Johnny, for his part, then had a daughter, Laura Smet, with Nathalie Baye, then, much later, married Laeticia Hallyday, with whom he adopted Jade and Joy.
