Sylvain Augier fired from France 3 because of his illness? “Bipolarity had something to do with it”

Since he openly revealed his bipolarity, Sylvain Augier runs the television sets, to promote his autobiographical book I am coming back from far, published by Télémaque a few weeks ago. The 68-year-old presenter and journalist, former emblematic face of France Télévisions until his brutal ousting from The treasure map in 2005was recently the guest of Pascale de la Tour du Pin in PAF and Faustine Bollaert in It starts today. This Thursday, October 19, 2023, it was to Jordan de Luxe that Sylvain Augier gave an unfiltered interview, in which he discussed his illness, bipolar disorder, and the conditions of his dismissal from France 3. If the channel lined up behind a motorcycle accident that the host had had in Corsica to motivate his dismissal, the latter however remains convinced 18 years later that his bipolarity was not foreign to their motivations.

“On the pretext that I had had a motorcycle accident in Corsica. It’s true, but there was no reason to make me change but I think bipolarity had something to do with it. It started to show. I had low morale which was not good for running the show. I worried unnecessarily, I lost my dynamism. The audiovisual industry is ruthless, the day you are no longer in business, you leave.” confided the one who, today, does not regret having left the antenna. After revealing that he had never watched any issue of the new version of The treasure map in the hands of Cyril Féraud, Sylvain Augier confided that he loved his new life: “The calm in which I live in the south of France, the pressure of writing which takes a lot of time and is complicated (…) I don’t know what’s next yet, I live in the present moment (…) I have ideas. We’ll see, I don’t know.”

He was angry with Georges Pernoud

Asked about the great moments of his career by Jordan de Luxe, Sylvain Augier revealed that he had a violent altercation with the late Georges Pernoud almost thirty years ago, when France 3 chose him to host Do not dream, replacing Marc Bessou and Valérie Maurice. Georges Pernoud, who was the creator and producer of this program, took a dim view of this nomination, and did not hesitate to let Sylvain Augier know: “He told me : With you, we go to the wall. I never understood why. Well, I did another show”. The two men remained angry until the death of the journalist Thalassain January 2021 at the age of 73 as a result of Alzheimer’s disease, and Sylvain Augier seems to regret never having been able to reconcile with him: “It’s too late…”
