Swimming | Bronze for Canadian Ilya Kharun in 200m butterfly

Canadian Ilya Kharun won the bronze medal in the 200m butterfly event at the Paris Games on Wednesday at the Arena Paris La Défense.

He becomes the first Canadian man to win an Olympic medal in the pool since Brent Hayden’s bronze in the 100m freestyle at the London Olympics in 2012.

The gold medal went to Frenchman Leon Marchand, with an Olympic record. Kristof Milak won silver.

Kharun, 19, was born in Montreal in 2005. He moved to Las Vegas a few years later: his parents were acrobats for Cirque du Soleil.

Summer McIntosh will be in action in moments for the semi-finals of the 200m butterfly.
