Sweeteners are present in chewing gum or in sugar-free drinks. But the conclusions of theInserm alert on the danger of their use. Supposed to prevent weight gain, they would promote the risk of cancer.

Sweeteners have reduced the consumption of sugar, which is bad for health. But according to a study by Inserm, sweeteners could lead to an increased risk of cancer. “It doesn’t surprise me at all, it’s all bad”replies a woman. “I thought there was zero sugar, that it was good for your health”wonders another. According to the study, high-risk consumers are those who average at least 79 milligrams of sweetener per day. This is the equivalent of a little less than a can of certain sugar-free sodas.

A high consumption of sweeteners would increase the risk of cancer of the 13%in particular breast cancer and certain digestive cancers. “As always in nutrition, when you are in moderation, that is to say in small quantities and from time to time, there is no major health risk”moderates Mathilde Tovier of the nutritional epidemiology research team at Inserm. But for UFC-Que choose, the health impact of sweeteners should be re-examined in order to suspend or restrict their usage.
