The website of the Swedish tourist office specifies "Welcome to Sweden (not Switzerland). (Visitsweden)

It all started from a blunder, from the American president, Joe Biden, who during a speech on Sweden’s membership in NATO spoke instead of Switzerland. Before him, his successors, Jimmy Carter and George Bush, had made the same mistake. Already in 2018, when the Swedish company Spotify went public, Wall Street raised the Swiss flag.

In France it is not better, for example, the Grenoble ice rink played the Swedish anthem during a hockey match with skaters from the city of Bern which is in Switzerland. Worse still, more than one in ten Brits think ABBA and Ikea are Swiss. As for Americans, 10% admit to having almost booked a plane for the wrong destination.

And so Sweden decided to send a message to Switzerland to put an end to all this. In a humorous video, put online on October 24, we see actress Emma Peters speaking in front of two yellow and blue flags, with this message addressed to the Swiss: “We are contacting you about our mutual problem. It’s time we differentiate between our two nations, as clear as day, by deciding who speaks about what.”

The Swiss will be able to talk about banks, the Swedes about sandbanks. LSD goes back to Switzerland which invented it, the Northern Lights to Sweden, a mind-blowing experience of another kind. Particle accelerators are Switzerland, Sweden reserves the opposite of accelerating: decompressing. Switzerland will take care of luxury items like watches, Sweden will present a luxury of another kind: that of being able to forget the passing of time. Finally, Sweden will promote silence, while Switzerland will be able to highlight loud noises, like Yodeling.
