swastikas and at least five anti-Semitic tags spotted in Danjoutin, the town hall files a complaint

In France-Comté, several anti-Semitic inscriptions were discovered in Danjoutin, a town near Belfort. An investigation is open.

The town hall of Danjoutin, in the Territoire de Belfort department, has discovered several anti-Semitic inscriptions since Monday June 10, on several buildings. Communal walls, two banks, as well as houses were tagged red. It notably reads “kill the Jews” and “kill the Zionists”, threats accompanied by a swastika.

It was a local resident who alerted the authorities. The town hall had some of the targeted walls cleaned and filed a complaint. Belfort police have opened an investigation.

Emmanuel Formet, the mayor of Danjoutin, speaks “unacceptable and intolerable slogans and signs in our democracy, in France”. “I strongly condemn these actions. We have never seen this kind of tags until now. I hope that with the complaint filed, we will be able to find the perpetrators.”concludes the mayor.

The town hall of La Côte-Saint-André, in Isère, filed a complaint after the discovery of racist and Islamophobic tags in a park, reported France Bleu Isère.

Fourteen inscriptions were discovered in Allivet Park and a defibrillator was also damaged, without a link being able to be established for the moment.

“These acts of hatred and violence have no place in our municipality. We are committed to reacting vigorously to restore our park and to ensure the security and peace of our citizens”reacted in a press release Mayor Joël Gullon, also president of the Bièvre-Isère Community of Communes.

The municipality filed a complaint with the gendarmerie. Cleaning work has been undertaken. The cost of the damage could amount to 10,000 euros.
