Friday July 22, the government has says no to the reintegration of unvaccinated caregivers into hospitals, in line with the negative opinion of the High Authority for Health. In some overseas departments, the situation of these caregivers is a subject of great tension.
At the Saint-Esprit hospital in Martinique, 160 nursing staff still refuse the vaccine against Covid-19. “What do you want me to do, since I don’t want this vaccine? I’m actually scared“, testifies one of them. Here, one in two caregivers refuses the injection. Last October, the addiction service almost closed for lack of staff. Not enough to change the minds of these caregivers.
Earlier in the day Friday July 22, the government announced its decision not to reinstate caregivers who were not vaccinated and suspended for this reason. A question debated many times. The former Minister of Health, now government spokesperson, Olivier Véran, estimated the number of caregivers still unvaccinated throughout France at “600 nurses” and “75 doctors and pharmacists“.
