The Montrealer accused of mowing down two pedestrians with his car before fleeing the night of New Year’s Day will remain detained at least until mid-February.
Antoine Dubuc, aged 23, appeared briefly on Monday at the Montreal courthouse, where his case was postponed until February 14.
Dubuc faces six charges, including dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop following an accident causing death and impaired driving causing death.
Dubuc’s lawyer told the court Monday he needed more evidence and blood test results before he was ready for his client’s bail hearing.
The victims were identified as Augustin Wesley Katimba, aged 30, and Michael Chintakis, aged 31.
Augustin Wesley Katimba, a Namibian native, was returning from church on the night of New Year’s Day when he was mowed down, in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville district. Michael Chintakis was heading to a friend’s house to celebrate the New Year.
The Montreal City Police Department indicated that the accused allegedly mowed down the two pedestrians at high speed shortly after 1 a.m. before fleeing the scene, first in his vehicle then on foot.
