Suspected of corruption, the Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture has submitted his resignation, as shown in the letter published on Facebook by the President of Parliament on Thursday April 25. Mykola Solsky is accused of having appropriated state-owned land before joining the government. Ukrainian parliamentarians must now rule on his resignation so that it can succeed. If Parliament were to refuse, the 44-year-old assured he was ready to “continue to work”.
Several corruption cases have emerged in Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, particularly within the army. They generally involve officials holding less senior positions than the one occupied by Mykola Solsky since March 2022.
On Tuesday, the National Anti-Corruption Agency announced that Mykola Solsky was suspected of having seized public land from a “value of nearly 6.9 million euros” and to have “tried to appropriate other lands” worth nearly 4.5 million euros.
