Two men, suspected of the theft of 24 high-end vehicles during several burglaries in the Normandy region, were remanded in custody pending their appearance on January 14, the Directorate General of the National Gendarmerie (DGGN) announced in a press release on Wednesday 5 January. A third individual was placed under judicial supervision. The three Honfleurais admitted the facts in police custody, after their arrest on December 14.

The various burglaries took place mainly in the departments of Calvados and Eure, in the second half of the year 2021, explains the DGGN. Under the direction of the public prosecutor’s office in Lisieux (Calvados), a preliminary investigation had been opened and entrusted to the gendarmes of the research section of Caen. “Their meticulous investigations, supported by surveillance and intelligence gathering, identified a particularly organized team specializing in this type of fact.”

This team, composed in particular of two individuals in their twenties “very unfavorably known” of justice, is suspected of having always used the same operating mode: a drone made it possible to identify certain properties, before entering them at night and in the presence of the occupants to steal the keys of high-end vehicles.

These stolen vehicles were subsequently used for “fulfill orders for vehicles stolen for criminal purposes”. They were delivered to “an organized Rouen gang with which the accused are in close connection”. In total, the damage exceeds 600 000 euros, according to the gendarmerie.
