Suspect wanted after Highway 40 chase

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is currently looking for a suspect in the Pont-Rouge sector, in connection with a story of vehicle theft that started in Quebec.

The Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) received a report for vehicle theft in the Sainte-Thérèse-de-Lisieux district of the Beauport borough around 4:30 a.m. on Friday.

The stolen car was located a few minutes later by patrol officers while driving westbound on Highway 40.

“The police immediately called the SQ, since the highway is under their jurisdiction. They are the ones who then took over,” explained SPVQ spokesperson David Pelletier.

A high-speed police chase then began over several kilometers between the Sûreté du Québec and the suspect. The latter branched off towards Pont-Rouge at a certain point.

He finally left the road in a work zone, near the Jean Coutu store on Dupont Street. As the vehicle was damaged, the suspect then fled on foot.

“Police and a dog handler are still looking for him,” said SQ spokesman Claude Doiron. They are scouring the area to find him.”

More details will follow.
