Suspect arrested after multiple shootings in Langley, B.C.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have arrested a first suspect following multiple shootings that broke out in the town of Langley, in greater Vancouver.

In a press release, the police force indicates that officers intervened at various locations following calls from witnesses reporting gunshots. Several people were said to have been affected.

The police sent an alert to the cell phones of area residents around 6:30 a.m. as a preventive measure to inform the population. About an hour later, a second message was sent, this time indicating that a suspect had been arrested.

Authorities believe the suspect who is currently in custody is the perpetrator of the shootings.

Initial reports say most of the incidents took place in downtown Langley, but one incident was reported in Langley Township. The police are investigating various crime scenes.

An initial cellphone alert was sent asking people to avoid the area.

RCMP are asking people to stay away from survey areas, including the Cascades Casino and Langley Bus Terminal.
