The super-group made up of Nirvana bassist, Soundgarden guitarist and drummer — Cameron also hits the headlines with Pearl Jam — revolves around singer Jillian Raye, who was already collaborating with Novoselic as part of the indie-folk band Giants in the Trees.

3rd Secret is rounded out by guitarist Bubba Dupree and backing vocalist Jennifer Johnson, also an occasional member of Giants in the Trees. The new group just took the stage last Saturday at the Museum of Popular Culture in Seattle to play some of the 11 songs from the album in a surprise concert.

The 3rd Secret self-titled album, which was launched from April 9 on a handful of streaming platforms, is a collection of pieces that are sometimes folk, sometimes rock, the characteristic signature of Thayil’s guitar harmonizing beautifully with Raye’s warm voice.

According to the magazine New Musical Express, the recording was done in three separate recording sessions. However, the mixing of the disc was entirely entrusted to Jack Endino, a long-time accomplice of Nirvana and Soundgarden – Endino also recorded three songs, in addition to supporting Nate Yaccino for five other songs. The other three tracks were recorded by Erik Friend, another former Novoselic colleague with Giants in the Trees – the musician also plays keyboards on two songs, DeadSea and Rhythm of the Ride.

Produced entirely independently, the disc has not yet been released in physical format.
