This is revealed by a document received following a request under the Act respecting access to documents held by public bodies and the protection of personal information. The newspaper made this request at least last August after the Pope’s visit.

Pope Francis traveled to Canada from July 24-29. After a stop in Alberta, he visited Quebec from July 27 to 29.

For the Sûreté du Québec alone, 967 police officers were assigned to the operation surrounding the visit of Pope Francis to Quebec.

The number of overtime hours worked by the police officers mobilized during the visit of Pope Francis amounted to 60,571 hours.

The Quebec City Police Department and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police also participated in security operations during this visit.
