The American Supreme Court unanimously overturned, Monday March 4, a decision by the Colorado courts, which had declared Donald Trump ineligible in this state. The decision was announced on the eve of “Super Tuesday”, during which fifteen states simultaneously organize the Republican and Democratic primaries in preparation for the presidential election in November. The billionaire is the big favorite in the poll among the conservatives.

At the end of December, Donald Trump was declared ineligible by the Colorado courts, due to his responsibility in the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Without qualifying the actions of the former Republican president, the nine judges of the Court Supreme Federal Council considered on Monday that only Congress was authorized to remove the name of a candidate from the ballot for the presidential election, and not a State. This decision therefore applies to all American states, and not just Colorado.

Donald Trump immediately greeted “a great victory for America!!!”on his network, Truth Social. Of the thirty states in which ineligibility appeals were brought against him, only three were successful: in Colorado and Maine, which vote on Tuesday, as well as in Illinois. Several states were nevertheless waiting for the Supreme Court to rule definitively on this question.
