(Ottawa) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will announce Thursday the appointment of a French-speaking judge from Alberta, Mary Moreau, to the Supreme Court of Canada.
The choice of Judge Mary Moreau, first reported by Radio-Canada, was confirmed to The Press by a government source. Justice Moreau will replace Justice Russell Brown on the nation’s highest court, who resigned in June after facing allegations of misconduct.
By choosing Judge Moreau, Justin Trudeau is writing a page of history. For the first time since the creation of the Supreme Court of Canada, women will be in the majority.
More details to come.
