Supreme Court of the United States | A web designer can refuse to create one for gay marriages

(Washington) The conservative majority of the US Supreme Court has ruled that a Christian designer designing wedding websites could refuse to work with same-sex couples.

This decision is a defeat for gay rights. The court ruled 6 to 3 in favor of graphic designer Lorie Smith, despite a Colorado law prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation, race, gender and other characteristics. She argued that the law violated her right to freedom of expression.

The opponents of M.me Smith warned that a victory for the latter would allow a range of companies to discriminate, refusing to serve black, Jewish or Muslim customers, interracial or interfaith couples or immigrants. On the other hand, M.me Smith and his supporters have said that an unfavorable ruling against him would force artists to do work contrary to their beliefs.
