Support the Common Front, even in secondary 5

Dear citizens,

I would first like to briefly introduce myself. My name is Ikram El Abied and I am a fifth secondary student at Lucille-Teasdale International School. For a long time, I have wondered how the voices of students can be heard in the fight that public sector employees are waging for better working conditions and better pay. I came to the conclusion that an open letter would be a great way to do this.

The Common Front is a coalition of unions representing public sector workers in Quebec. They are fighting to defend their rights, improve their working conditions and guarantee a better quality of public services for all Quebecers.

In this period of collective negotiations, it is essential to show our solidarity with these workers who fight day after day for decent wages, respectful work hours and fair working conditions. Their struggles have direct repercussions on the quality of life of all Quebecers.

The Common Front seeks to secure adequate investment in public services, such as education, health and social services. These services are the cornerstone of our society and we can no longer tolerate the cuts and lack of resources that jeopardize the well-being of all Quebecers.

We are all aware, dear fellow citizens, that the price of living is increasing day by day, at an exponential speed. It is our duty to ensure that public sector employees can fight inflation like their colleagues in the private sector.

I reiterate my support for the legitimate demands of the Common Front and ask the Government of Quebec to negotiate in good faith to reach a fair and equitable agreement.

Together, we can make our voices heard and remind the government of the importance of public services and respect for workers’ rights. Let’s support the Common Front in Quebec and defend the values that are close to our hearts.
