Supervision continues for the CHSLD du Boisé Sainte-Thérèse

Six months were not enough: a new 180 days of guardianship was announced for the private home of Boisé Sainte-Thérèse, in the Laurentians. Dozens of elders were found there with sores and skin changes last October.

Since 1er November 2022, teams from the CISSS des Laurentides are responsible for the provisional administration of this private CHSLD, located in the municipality of Sainte-Thérèse.

This guardianship was declared following an audit carried out by the CISSS last fall. At that time, 85 of the 159 residents had been found with sores or skin changes.

Other residents had scratch marks or fingernail infections. The needs of many seniors were not met, according to our information.

On Saturday, the Minister for Health and Seniors, Sonia Bélanger, announced that the guardianship would continue for at least 180 more days.

The provisional administration, in place for several months now at the CHSLD du Boisé Sainte-Thérèse, has enabled us to deploy substantial interventions to improve the care and services offered to the people housed. The extension of the provisional administration aims to consolidate the interventions in progress so that they become permanent.

This type of provisional administration of a private establishment has been possible since the spring of 2022, thanks to the adoption of the Act to strengthen the fight against mistreatment of older adults and any other adult in a position of vulnerability, can we also read in the press release.

“This is an important lever to ensure the quality of care and services in this type of facility,” it says.
