Super Bowl | Patrick Mahomes back to work

(Kansas City) Patrick Mahomes took part in a light practice without a right ankle problem on Thursday.

The Chiefs quarterback should be fully trained by the Super Bowl between Kansas City and the Philadelphia Eagles on February 12.

Mahomes sprained his ankle in the first round of playoffs against Jacksonville. He was clearly annoyed last Sunday in the AFC Championship game against Cincinnati.

Although he took a beating (and made a frantic breakout that led to the game-winning field goal), Mahomes did well physically against the Bengals.

“It was a physical game. My whole body was a little sore, but I don’t think I took a step back on the ankle,” Mahomes said. It was a bit sore during the game, but other than that I feel good. »

Other players, however, were injured in the 23-20 win against the Bengals: wide ends Mecole Hardman (pelvis), JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Kadarius Toney (ankle), as well as linebacker Willie Gay (shoulder ).

Gay and wide receiver Justin Watson took part in Thursday’s practice.

Kansas City is optimistic about Toney, Smith-Schuster and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who is on protocol for concussions.

Three cornerbacks and a safety being rookies, Sneed often has to cover the most dangerous of the opponent’s wide ends.

Coach Andy Reid says 2020 first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire could be given the green light to face the Eagles.

Edwards-Helaire had lost the senior running back position to Isiah Pacheco before spraining his ankle in late November. His versatility, however, could be beneficial in the big game.

“He’s going to train and we’ll see when the time comes,” Reid said. We go there day by day to see how he feels. »
