Super Bowl | Chiefs guard Joe Thuney will not play with pectoral injury

(Las Vegas) The Kansas City Chiefs said left guard Joe Thuney will not play in the Super Bowl because of a pectoral injury suffered in the second round of the playoffs.

Nick Allegretti will replace him on Sunday, against the 49ers from San Francisco.

Coach Andy Reid had insisted all week that Thuney was not necessarily ruled out for Sunday. He hadn’t practiced since the game he got hurt in Buffalo, though.

Allegretti will play in a second Super Bowl, after the one against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.

On a more positive note, wide receiver Rashee Rice was a regular participant in Chiefs practice. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who did not play in last year’s Super Bowl due to injury, also participated in the full practice after being ill earlier this week.
