Some eyebrows were raised upon learning that the 45-year-old American singer had managed to win this honor. Will the reactions, rather divided, be better after the 13-minute show?

The R&B artist behind the hits Yeah! And OMGwho has a career spanning nearly thirty years, will not be making his first appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show since he played it with the Black Eyed Peas in 2011.

An intriguing trailer

Apple Music, title sponsor of the halftime show, shared a poignant “1 performance” trailer. 30 years in the making.” (“1 performance. 30 years of preparation.” in French). We see several clips showing people singing, playing or dancing to the song Yeah! of Usher.

A show dedicated to R&B

R&B will be in the spotlight during this halftime show. For the moment, Usher has still not given any clues about the songs that we will be able to hear during his performance. It must be said that his career spanning nearly three decades gives him plenty of choice… Will he also sing big R&B hits by other artists? To be continued!

A nod to black artists of the past

In interview with Kelley Carter at Good Morning America, Usher confided that he had in mind the black artists who paved the way so that he could now perform the halftime show. “I think about what our country has meant to black artists, you know, when they at one point had to go through kitchens to perform in front of an audience, and they had to walk back through that same door, fearing for their lives by going to the next state to do the same thing. I’m going to go through the front door this time,” he confided.

A new album for Usher

On February 9, Usher will release his ninth album, Coming Home. A well-oiled marketing stunt that will perhaps make him want to sing one of his new creations on stage? We already know that the album includes collaborations with Latto, Burna Boy, 21 Savage and many others. The artist also launched the song Ruinwith Pheelz, accompanied by a video clip where we can see him with his daughter.

Surprise guests?

Many rumors suggest that stars could well come on stage with Usher… We already know that country star Reba McEntire, singer Post Malone and artist Andra Day will come and sing before the match.

Super Bowl LVIII will be held on February 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Some loose facts
  • Usher will not be paid for his Super Bowl performance. We suspect that the enormous visibility to which he will be entitled will be worth it!
  • The possible presence of Taylor Swift, who would come to encourage her lover Travis Kelce, Chiefs player, is almost as much (or more) talked about than the halftime show!
