Sunday in the NHL | The Kings shut out the Sabers

Andreas Athanasiou scored two goals, including the 100and in his career, Cal Petersen blocked 19 shots and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Buffalo Sabers 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

After Athanasiou broke the tie with 3:05 remaining in the second period, he and Dustin Brown sealed the victory by scoring alternately into an empty net during the final minute of play.

As for Petersen, he earned his second shutout of the season and the fourth of his career, against the team that had claimed him in the draft.

The Kings, who erased a 3-1 deficit and snatched a 4-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets in overtime on Friday night, have won seven of their last nine games. They are 10-1-2 in their last 13 road outings.

They total 31 wins, their highest total after 57 games since the 2015-2016 season.

In addition to suffering the loss, the Sabers lost the services of Alex Tuch, who did not return after colliding with the opposing net, with 8:55 left in the game.
