Sunday in the NHL | The Jets defeat the Wild 2-1 in overtime

(Edmonton) Kyle Connor scored on a power play during overtime to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild.

The Jets thus bring their record to 3-0-0 at the start of the season, a first in the history of the organization.

It was a second straight overtime victory for the Jets, who defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 on Friday.

Wild defenseman Zach Bogosian, who has long worn the colors of the Jets, was punished with six seconds remaining in the third period for holding Mark Scheifele’s stick.

Scheifele scored his fourth goal of the campaign and added an assist to his 800e game in the National Hockey League.

Jake Middleton scored the Wild’s lone goal with a wrist shot from the blue line that found its way into Connor Hellebuyck’s net in the first period.

Scheifele tied the game with less than two seconds left in the first period. He now has six points, including four goals, in three games.

Hellebuyck stopped 26 pucks while his opposite number Filip Gustavsson blocked 33 shots for the Wild (1-0-2).

Rasmus Andersson (4) had a goal and two assists.

Rasmus Andersson had a goal and two assists to lead the Calgary Flames to a 4-1 win over their big Alberta rivals, the Edmonton Oilers, on Sunday night.

If the Flames (3-0-0) remain perfect, the Oilers (0-3-0) have still not tasted victory this season after reaching the Stanley Cup final last June.

Anthony Mantha, Justin Kirkland and Connor Zary scored the other Flames goals. It was a first goal in the National Hockey League for the 28-year-old Kirkland.

Jeff Skinner scored the only goal for the Oilers, who also struggled early last year with a 2-9-1 start.

The Oilers have been outscored 15-3 in their first three meetings, all played at home.

Dan Vladar made 24 saves for the Flames while Stuart Skinner stopped 25 shots.

Sam Steel (18) was alone near the net when he redirected a pass from Colin Blackwell past Philipp Grubauer with 3:43 remaining in the first period.

Sam Steel and Wyatt Johnston scored in a span of 14 seconds in the first period, Casey DeSmith made 25 saves for the 11e career shutout and the Dallas Stars defeated the Seattle Kraken 2-0.

This is the second shutout in two nights for the Stars after Jake Oettinger’s 34 saves against the New York Islanders on Saturday.

Steel was alone near the net when he redirected a Colin Blackwell pass past Philipp Grubauer with 3:43 left in the first period. From the next faceoff, Johnston followed with a quick wrist shot that fooled Grubauer.

The Kraken goalkeeper finished the evening with 24 saves.

Johnston, who had 32 goals last season, recorded at least one point in each of his first three games this season.

The Stars also had two consecutive shutouts at the end of last season. They blanked the Kraken 3-0 on March 30, then the Edmonton Oilers 5-0 on April 3.
