Sidney Crosby shines in Penguins’ 6-3 win over Red Wings

Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist and the Pittsburgh Penguins triumphed 6-3 against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night.

Crosby scored his 583e career goal, joining Wayne Gretzky for the seventh highest total on a single team.

It was Crosby’s first goal in 12 games and 33e this season, helping the Penguins keep their playoff hopes alive.

Lars Eller, Reilly Smith and Valtteri Puustinen also had a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who won for the second time in their last three games.

Michael Bunting and Drew O’Connor also moved the ropes for the Pittsburgh squad. Alex Nedeljkovic blocked 25 shots.

Lucas Raymond, on two occasions, and Christian Fischer found the back of the net for the Red Wings. Alex Lyon gave up five times in 37 shots.

Three goals in 83 seconds help Blackhawks win 5-2 over Sharks

Ryan Donato, Kevin Korchinski and Joey Anderson scored in an 83-second span and the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the San Jose Sharks 5-2 on Sunday night.

Philipp Kurashev and Connor Bedard also scored for the Blackhawks, who have won four of their last six games. Petr Mrazek made 24 saves.

Ryan Carpenter and Klim Kostin responded for the Sharks, who have lost 13 of their last 14 games.

At 26, Devin Cooley played his first career NHL game and stopped 26 shots for the Sharks.

The California team led 2-0 when Kurashev redirected a pass from Tyler Johnson behind Cooley.

The Blackhawks then found the back of the net four times in the final 10 minutes of the game. Donato created the tie before Korchinski gave his team the lead. Anderson extended the lead just 11 seconds later.

Orlov has a good night of work and the Hurricanes crush the Senators

Dmitry Orlov had four points and the Carolina Hurricanes crushed the Ottawa Senators 7-2 on Sunday night.

The two teams were playing a second game in as many days, but the Hurricanes did better thanks to four goals in the third period.

Orlov scored two goals while Evgeny Kuznetsov, Seth Jarvis, Jalen Chatfield, Jake Guentzel and Brendan Lemieux each added one.

In his team’s victory, Sebastian Aho obtained three assists. Frederik Andersen made 31 saves.

Thomas Chabot and Tim Stutzle responded for the Senators, who saw their three-game winning streak end. Anton Forsberg stopped 30 shots.

Poor defensive coverage allowed Chatfield to give the Hurricanes a 4-2 lead early in the third period. Orlov, Guentzel and Lemieux added more during the period.

Tyler Toffoli scores two goals and the Jets beat the Blue Jackets 6-1

Tyler Toffoli scored two goals and an assist to guide the Winnipeg Jets to an easy 6-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday night.

Nikolaj Ehlers had a goal and an assist for the Jets, who joined the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche atop the Central Division.

Kyle Connor, Logan Stanley and Vladislav Namestnikov also lit the red light for the Manitoba squad. Sean Monahan had a hand in two goals while Connor Hellebuyck stopped 30 pucks.

Brendan Gaunce scored for the Blue Jackets, who have lost four of their last five outings, including three of the last four at home.

Elvis Merzlikins stopped 21 shots for the Blue Jackets, who are last in the Metropolitan Division standings.

Rangers win against the Islanders

Jonny Brodzinski gave the New York Rangers the lead in the second period to lead his team to a 5-2 victory against the Islanders on Sunday.

The Rangers scored three times in the second period to erase a one-goal deficit and take a 3-2 lead.

Mika Zibanejad, Will Cuylle, Kaapo Kakko and Alexis Lafrenière also moved the ropes for the Rangers, who have won five of their last six games. Igor Shesterkin finished his working day with 25 saves.

Lafrenière matched his personal mark with 19 goals.

Bo Horvat scored twice and Ilya Sorokin made 26 saves in the Islanders’ fourth straight loss.

Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren left the game in the second period after contact with Quebecer Jean-Gabriel Pageau behind Shesterkin. He was unable to put weight on his left leg and did not return to the game.

Jack Eichel scores to help Golden Knights beat Devils 3-1

Jack Eichel scored his 21e goal of the season and the Vegas Golden Knights beat the New Jersey Devils 3-1 on Sunday.

After the Devils took a 1-0 lead in the 38the second of the third period, the Golden Knights responded by scoring the next two goals.

Eichel beat goaltender Jake Allen on his seventh shot of the game, to the delight of the 18,234 spectators.

William Carrier and William Karlsson also scored for the Golden Knights, while Noah Hanifin participated in two goals for his team. Logan Thompson stopped 19 shots.

Nico Hischier hit the mark for the Devils. Allen finished the game with 34 saves.

Thomas hits the target twice and the Blues win 4-2 against the Ducks

Robert Thomas scored two power play goals in the third period and the St. Louis Blues won 4-2 against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night.

Jake Neighbors also hit the target on the power play for the Blues, who signed a fourth victory in a row.

Kevin Hayes added a goal in the victory while Pavel Buchnevich participated in three goals for his team. Joel Hofer stopped 26 shots.

The Blues are just four points behind the Vegas Golden Knights for second and last place among drafted teams in the Western Conference.

Troy Terry scored both goals for the Ducks, who suffered a sixth consecutive defeat. They had been shut out in their last two outings.

Lukas Dostal stopped 23 pucks for the Ducks, who lost every game of their four-game road trip.
