Sunday in the NHL | Rangers defeat Capitals to end four-game losing streak

Artemi Panarin and Alexis Lafrenière scored in the first period and the New York Rangers held on to beat the Washington Capitals 2-1 on Sunday.

The Rangers were coming back from a 3-2 loss to the Capitals on Saturday and ended a four-game losing streak.

The New Yorkers resisted constant pressure from the Capitals in the third period and finished the game with the victory. Igor Shesterkin made 24 saves.

TJ Oshie scored the only goal for the Capitals in the second period. Charlie Lindgren finished the game with 29 saves.

Panarin scored his 27e net of the campaign, which constitutes a high for the Rangers. He also leads the team with 59 points.

Vincent Trocheck participated in Panarin’s goal. He has amassed 13 points in his last eight outings and 17 in his last 14.

Lafrenière scored his 11e goal of the season with only 50 seconds left in the first period. He got frustrated with Lindgren before jumping on his return to thread the needle.
