Ducks win 3-2 in overtime

Troy Terry scored his second goal of the game on an overtime penalty shot to give the Anaheim Ducks a 3-2 win over the Saint Louis Blues on Sunday night.

Scott Perunovich got caught for hitting a stick with just over a minute left in overtime and Terry was offered a penalty shot. He beat goaltender Jon Gillies with a backhand shot to score his 17e goal of the season and end the game.

Buddy Robinson was the other scorer for the Ducks who ended a seven-game home winning streak for the Blues. Anthony Stolarz repelled 23 shots.

Nathan Walker and Oskar Sundqvist found the back of the net for the Blues. Gillies finished the game with 36 saves. Brayden Schenn, who collected two assists, left the game in the third period with an upper body injury. He did not return afterwards.

The score was tied 1-1 after two periods and the two teams traded a goal in the third.

Walker, who had a hat trick Thursday against the Red Wings, scored with a wrist shot from the top of the slot at 7.40 in the third period. Then the Ducks came back from behind thanks to Terry recovering a throwback from Cam Fowler at 1:29 PM.

Gillies, 27, signed a contract with the Blues on Wednesday. He became the fifth goaltender to get a start with the team this season after Jordan Binnington, Ville Husso, Joel Hofer and Charlie Lindgren.

Gillies last started in the NHL on April 7, 2018, when he wore the Calgary Flames in a 7-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

As of the 2019-20 season, Gillies has only played ten games, all in the minor ranks.

Juuse Saros stopped all 32 shots he received to pull off his second shutout of the season.

Juuse Saros stopped all 32 shots he received to pull off his second shutout of the season and allow the Nashville Predators to defeat the New York Rangers 1-0 on Sunday night.

Rookie Philip Tomasino scored early in the second half to propel the Predators to their fifth straight victory, including three in the New York area in the past four days. They beat the New York Islanders 4-3 on Thursday and the New Jersey Devils 3-2 on Friday night.

Saros repelled six shots in the first period, 10 in the second and 16 in the third. He recorded his 16e quarry laundering.

Alexandar Georgiev parried 23 shots in front of the Rangers, who had to admit defeat for the second time in three games. However, this is only a third loss in their last 15 meetings.

Tomasino hit the first at 1:44 at the start of the second period, helped by Filip Forsberg and defender Alexandre Carrier. Forsberg has 11 points – seven goals and four assists – in his last 10 games.

2019 Predators first-round pick Tomasino landed an accurate shot from the top of the slot to beat Georgiev

The one-goal advance held up due to Saros’ genius in the third period.

The Rangers got a chance to score on a power play at 6:25 in the third period, but Ryan Strome got frustrated with two shots at close range. A parry with the right leg and finally with the mitten allowed Saros to protect the advance.

Ryan Johensen was conspicuous by his absence from that game, he who was subjected to COVID-19 protocol on Sunday. He is one of the team’s best scorers, including three goals and 12 assists in his last 11 meetings.
