Summer McIntosh wins 200m butterfly gold at Paris 2024 Olympics

Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh won the gold medal in the 200-metre butterfly on Thursday at the Paris Olympics.

The Canadian set an Olympic record by swimming the distance in 2:03.03. She finished ahead of American Regan Smith (2:03.84) and Chinese Zhang Yufei (2:05.09).

Zhang held the previous Olympic record of 2:03.86, set on July 29, 2021 at the Tokyo Games.

McIntosh won a third medal at the Paris Olympics, after taking gold in the 400-metre individual medley and silver in the 400-metre freestyle.

The 17-year-old from Toronto joined George Hodgson in 1972 and Alex Baumann in 1984 as the only Canadian swimmers to win two gold medals at the same Olympics.

McIntosh will have a chance to add more medals to her haul in Paris. She will compete in the 4×200-metre freestyle relay later Thursday, as well as the 200-metre individual medley.
