Summer McIntosh sets world record in 400m freestyle

Summer McIntosh of Ontario set a world record in the women’s 400 freestyle at the Canadian swimming trials on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old Torontonian finished the event in 3:56.08, breaking the record of 3:56.40 set last year by Australian Ariarne Titmus.

McIntosh previously held the Canadian record for the event in 3:59.32.

McIntosh, a silver medalist in the 400 freestyle at the Worlds last year, also won two gold and a bronze at the same competition.

McIntosh competed in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics at the age of 14, finishing fourth in the 400m freestyle.

The Canadian Swimming Trials are used to select athletes for the World Championships and Pan Am Games later this year.
