The former mayor of Montreal was in the QUB radio studios on Friday morning. At the microphone of Philippe-Vincent Foisy, Denis Coderre took stock of his health, he who suffered a stroke on April 11. The one who was still running the events a few months ago was forced to relearn how to walk and talk. But, according to him, things are improving rapidly.

“I thank God,” he admits.
It is true that the sequelae could have been permanent. It all started at the wheel of his car on Wednesday. He had just finished his radio column when he began to see double. In addition, he was seized with dizziness. Thinking he was a victim of labyrinthitis, he went home anyway.
On Saturday, during a discussion with his mother, she noticed that her son did not speak as well as usual. She insisted that he go to the hospital, but it was not until the next day that he decided to comply.
“I called my friend, who is also my neighbor, and I told him that I was not able to drive,” says Mr. Coderre.
Arriving at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, the ex-mayor can no longer speak or stand. He then feared a stroke, a diagnosis which was confirmed. Thanks to the intervention of the doctors, his physical faculties are slowly returning.
“I attempted suicide”
Denis Coderre went there with a surprising statement to Philippe-Vincent Foisy. He confessed to trying to take his own life after his 2017 election defeat.
“In life, you make choices,” says Mr. Coderre. I have two children, and I do not want to leave them as a legacy that they are victims.
If Mr. Coderre has lost a little precision in his speech, he has certainly lost none of his mental abilities. He even allowed himself to throw a few arrows at Valérie Plante and Justin Trudeau.
