The years follow one another, but they are not alike, since the sugaring season began earlier this year on Île d’Orléans.
The start of the 2024 maple season is excellent after a more difficult year in 2023.
“It’s a very good start to the season, because we were able to do it at the beginning of March. It extends the season a lot. We are lucky to have more time for production. The maple trees have been sinking for four weeks already,” rejoices the owner of the Aventure Sugar Shack, Steve Morency.
Mr. Morency expects the season to be longer due to the temperature. Usually, the sugar season lasts about five weeks.
“We are very surprised, because there is still a bit of bad weather forecast this season. It will last a little longer, because it takes a little bad weather for the maples to sink,” he explains.
The start of the sugar season comes at the right time for Steve Morency, as he has just launched into the world of the sugar shack.
“People respond very well. They are happy to come see us, especially since we are in the forest. They are peaceful in the woods and they really like it. We are very surprised by the traffic,” says the owner of the Aventure Sugar Shack.
Mr. Morency wishes for a little more syrup and bad weather for the end of the maple season.
