suffering from multiple sclerosis, he wants to break the world record for triathlons

Géraud Paillot, 52, has multiple sclerosis since 2004. In partnership with Mathieu Vaillant, neurologist, he will try on Sunday August 28 to chain the greatest number of long distance triathlons and to register in the Guinness book record. Géraud Paillot competes in the disabled category and Mathieu Vaillant in the valid category. The idea is to do one triathlon a day for as many days as possible. The duo aims to chain them for a minimum of three days.

For Géraud Paillot, disability does not prevent him from taking part in sporting challenges. In 2017, he quit his job, his illness worsened. He then decides to create the association Adventure Hustive which organizes physical challenges ” I went from Paris to Marseille by kayak alone for 55 days, meeting the sick. Then I set up an expedition in the far north to Spitsbergen to cross the 80th parallel where we were disabled in a kayak for three weeks in complete autonomy.“. For the third time, Géraud and Mathieu Vaillant are teaming up for a long distance triathlon.

“The idea with Mathieu is to show that caregiver-patient, we are in the same boat, we move forward together, we paddle together and we can achieve incredible things”.

Géraud and Mathieu will complete a long-distance triathlon consisting of 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21 km of running. © Radio France

Raising awareness of invisible diseases

The goal of his association is to raise public awareness of invisible diseases such as multiple sclerosis. This disease affects the nervous system. ” When you see me, you can’t imagine that I’m handicapped and yet I have a lot of problems: cognitive problems, such as concentration, severe neurological fatigue, such as memory“. Multiple sclerosis affects 120,000 people in France.

The departure takes place at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning at the Aquamalo swimming pool in Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets.
