‘Succession’ Series Dominates Emmy Nominations

HBO series dominate Emmy nominations, announced Wednesday morning, with Succession, The White Lotus And The Last of Us which alone combine 74 mentions.

Succession and its deeply dysfunctional “one percenter” dynasty find themselves at the top of the nominations, with a total of 27. The series earned three nominations for Best Actor in a Drama; Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin finding themselves in competition. Sarah Snook finds herself in the running for the trophy for best actress.

Vacationers from the Sicilian resort featured in the second season of The White Lotus are numerous in the supporting categories, especially for actresses Jennifer Coolidge and Aubrey Plaza.

Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, the duo in the pandemic drama The Last of Useach earned nominations for a lead role.

Ted Lasso dominates the comedy categories, with 21 nominations, including for actor Jason Sudeikis.

As for Canadian artists, actors Martin Short, Luke Kirby and Lamar Johnson could win a statuette.

The theme of the scriptwriters’ strike may well overshadow the ceremony scheduled for September 18.

Actors could join striking film and TV screenwriters in what would be the first time since 1960 that two Hollywood unions have gone on strike. While series and movie releases would continue, work on upcoming projects would cease and promotional interviews and guest appearances in support of the projects would also be suspended.

The possibility of an industry weakened by two strikes could dampen any joy for the nominees and put a damper on the ceremony.
