Successful debut for Jonathan Drouin

It didn’t take long for Jonathan Drouin to score his first point in a Colorado Avalanche uniform.

In the eighth minute of the opening period of Wednesday night’s clash against the Kings in Los Angeles, the Quebecer skillfully passed the puck to Nathan MacKinnon. The Avs star player took the opportunity to open the scoring.

Drouin’s harvest stopped there, but his linemates – MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen – were very productive. The first added two assists, while the second amassed two goals and as many assists for four points.

The former Montreal Canadiens completed his evening with a differential of +2.

“They took the bull by the horns from the start and created a lot of things,” Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar told reporters of his top line.

“They were sometimes a little stubborn with the puck in the neutral zone. But they are also capable of making several interesting plays and creating numerous scoring opportunities.

“In the third period, they were very disciplined with the puck,” also noted the pilot.

It was also the 18th time that Rantanen collected four points in a game since playing in the National League.

“I guess I was just excited,” said the 26-year-old Finn. I missed part of the camp [d’entraînement]. So I was just excited to play. Playing with very good players helps.”
