The Imperial Cinema, located in the heart of downtown Montreal, must close its doors indefinitely. Moviegoers who were scheduled to attend a screening in the building on Friday night had to be evacuated, according to information obtained by Press.
Cinema fans were getting ready to see SUPREMES at the Imperial Cinema in the early evening, as part of the Cinemania festival, which has been in full swing since Tuesday. It was then that the organizers of the event had to evacuate the room, after being informed of problems in the structure of the building.
“The consultants recommended the temporary closure of the Imperial Cinema due to a sag in the northeast corner of the building. We will follow the next steps recommended by these experts and if all goes well in some time we will be able to resume activities ”, we read in a press release issued by the organization of the festival.
Imperial confirms the information. “Following a situation beyond our control which affected part of the building structure, the Imperial Cinema must, for prevention and with the recommendation of consultants, proceed with the temporary closure of its facilities”, writes the direction of the Imperial Cinema to Press. The cinema hopes “to be able to resume its activities soon”.
The Cinemania festival has temporarily suspended ticket sales for theatrical screenings on Friday evening. Online sessions are proceeding normally.
