Norwegian researchers have established that eating well can extend lifespan by up to 13 additional years in the youngest and almost 10 years if taken later.

The recipe for longevity is through our diet. If we knew that eating well was good for your health, a study now shows that it also leads to a longer life. “This Norwegian study shows that if you start eating well at age 20, you will increase your life expectancy by 13 years for a man and 10 years for a woman. By starting at age 60, you can gain eight to nine years of life expectancy”explains Damien Mascret on the set of 19/20.

Without going for the optimal, it is enough to be reasonable on a daily basis. “You have to eat a lot more fruit and vegetables and less meat. Eavoid alcohol and sugary drinks”, he continues. It is recommended to eat 350 grams of red meat per week, 450 grams of white meat and 125 grams of fish per day. On the other hand, you need at least 400 grams of vegetables and 400 grams of fruit per day, adding some starchy foods. “Don’t forget a handful of nuts a day and of course the olive oil”he concludes.
