Based on a story dreamed up by Dave Grohl himself, Studio 666 is, in the words of the leader of the Foo Fighters, a “dumb little horror comedy”. Hear by this that nothing should be taken seriously in this project aimed above all at admirers of the famous band, who will appreciate the good dose of self-mockery that runs right through it. Fans will no doubt also forgive the weaknesses of a predictable storyline, which runs out of steam quite quickly.

Directed by BJ McDonnell, to whom we owe the film Hatchet III, Studio 666 nevertheless includes some effective gags, as well as effects gory outrageous, more funny than scary, to tell the truth. There was, however, a good potential in this story taking place in a parallel world, where the “real” members of the group Foo Fighters find themselves in a sort of haunted mansion to record a new album there, at a time when their leader is ” musically constipated”.

However, Grohl finds inspiration again thanks to evil forces which, in a slight detail, also push him to eliminate several individuals in the bloodiest way possible. Among the victims, a delivery man (Will Forte) who wanted to present his demo to him (“You are my band favorite after Coldplay”), as well as the other members of his group. After all, a solo career awaits him…

Bringing smiles sometimes, not causing real chills either, Studio 666 will certainly not go down in history, but nevertheless constitutes for fans an intriguing aside in the abundant and diversified work offered by the former drummer of Nirvana.

Studio 666 hits theaters in the original English version only.
