Students who receive a grant based on social criteria will see it increase by 4% as part of a regulatory measure, which will be announced by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, of which franceinfo was able to learn, Thursday July 7. This measure will not be formally part of the purchasing power bill which will be presented this Thursday to the Council of Ministers.

This measure is aligned with the increase in other social benefits, such as the RSA, or family allowances. The last revaluation, of 1%, dates back to the last school year. A more comprehensive reform of the scholarship system, promised by Emmanuel Macron since his first five-year term, is still in the cards, but not immediately.

LPrecarious students will also receive the exceptional aid of 100 euros, promised to nine million modest French people. The measure must concern young scholarship holders but also those who receive APL outside the home of their parents. This concerns about one and a half million people.

Finally, the third major measure concerns the meal in the university restaurant at one euro, instead of 3.30 euros. This measure, offered to scholarship students and non-scholarship students in a precarious situation and decided in the midst of a health crisis, was to end this summer. It is finally renewed for the whole of the academic year.

the amount of scholarships based on social criteria varies according to the income of the family or that of the applicant’s household. For the 2021-2022 academic year, over ten months, it ranged from 1,042 euros for the lowest level to 5,736 euros for the 7th level.
