About 45,000 Hydro-Quebec customers were without power Wednesday evening, around 6:30 p.m., due to strong winds blowing in southern Quebec.
“The outages are caused by vegetation coming into contact with the network following gusts,” the state-owned company said on its website, indicating that its teams were hard at work trying to restore power. .
The most affected regions are Montérégie, the Laurentians and Montreal, said Hydro-Québec.
According to an alert issued by Environment Canada earlier in the afternoon, winds from the southwest of up to 90 kilometers per hour are expected this evening.
“High winds could blow loose objects away from a surface and break tree branches. Strong winds could cause power outages and break tree branches,” the federal agency said.
