The violent winds that blew over Quebec on Saturday evening were felt in several sectors of the province and caused power losses in several residences.
Around 6:15 p.m., just over 60,000 Hydro-Quebec customers found themselves in the dark, according to the state-owned company’s Info-pannes site.
“The strong winds blowing in southwestern Quebec are causing power outages. These occur when vegetation comes into contact with the network following gusts,” the electricity company said.
According to the first report, the regions of Montérégie (23,820 clients), Laurentides (13,135 clients) and Lanaudière (6,233 clients) were the most affected.
Nearly 3,800 households were without electricity at the same time on the island of Montreal and 4,160 in Laval. Centre-du-Québec (3,554 customers) and Estrie (3,080 customers) were not left out.
“As the winds continue to blow, the number of customers out of order could continue to vary during the evening. Our teams are working to restore service as quickly as possible,” he added.
A wind warning was issued by Environment Canada in the afternoon.
“Winds from the southwest will blow up to 90 kilometers per hour today at the end of the day”, is it possible to read in the alert which specified that buildings could be damaged.
