Two years after the death of George Floyd, history seems to be repeating itself in the United States. At the beginning of April, Patrick Lyoya, an unarmed black man, was killed. We take stock of this drama.
A video has been rocking the United States for a week. In the footage, 26-year-old Congolese refugee Patrick Lyoya gets out of his car after being arrested by police following a license plate issue. After a few minutes, he flees. Later in the video, the young man is face down. The officer stands over him, draws his gun and appears to shoot a bullet in the head.
The two lawyers for the family of Patrick Lyoya revealed on the morning of Tuesday April 19 the conclusions of the independent autopsy: “Patrick Lyoya was shot in the back of his head.” For a week, several demonstrations have followed one another in Grand Rapids (United States), where the young man was killed. The black community demands justice. The police officer implicated in the case has been placed on paid leave. The results of the official autopsy should be known on Thursday April 21.
