strong emotion after the death of Rayan

Morocco was still in shock on Sunday February 6. The day before, the population learned of the death of young Rayan, stuck under the rubble for several days. By the time rescuers pulled his body onto the stretcher, the crowd still held out hope that he would survive. The incredible rescue attempt unfortunately failed to save the young child. His parents received a call from King Mohamed VI who offered his condolences.

Ouassima Kharchich, Rayan’s mother, wanted to thank “those who have helped us and who have been by our side”. Thousands of people had gone to the scene to encourage the rescuers. A wave of sympathy has spread across the world on social networks. Pope Francis also greeted the Moroccan people. “In Morocco, everyone came together to save Rayan. Thank you to these people for this testimony”, did he declare. The child’s funeral will take place on Monday.
