Strike movement by nurse anesthetists at Pau hospital

Nursing anesthetists are on strike at Pau hospital. They demonstrated this Wednesday afternoon in front of the entrance. A national mobilization to demand that their profession be better recognized, in particular because the government wants to train nurses in “advanced practices” via the Ségur de la santé. These advanced practices are specific skills that are precisely what nurse anesthetists do. Nursing anesthetists are caregivers who work in the field of anesthesia, resuscitation, emergency medicine and pain management.

These nurse anesthetists feel threatened. In Pau, they are around thirty. Béatrice Trouilh is a nurse anesthetist at the Pau hospital. She is very upset because she has the impression that it is her job that is in danger of disappearing: “Because of the few doctors on the structure, we are sent to cardiology or radiology, we represent anesthesia and we are alone. But we are not recognized for this advanced practice, this autonomy that we have. We are training nurses on the same model as our training. Ours was very concrete whereas for these nurses this training will undoubtedly be a little more theoretical. I think it’s a shame that we don’t recognize that. ”

Patients stopped to chat with the protesters. This is the case with Fabienne who lives in Pardies: “It touches me a lot, these people give their all, they do what they can, _they are there for us__, that makes me want to cry_r. “A big day of demonstration of nurse anesthetists is scheduled for November 18 in Paris and in the big cities of France.
