Strike ends | LCBO stores to reopen Tuesday

(Toronto) The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) says its plans to end a two-week strike by about 10,000 employees are back on track after the employer and the union representing its workers signed a return-to-work protocol Saturday morning.

The LCBO said workers represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) will return to work Monday and stores are expected to reopen Tuesday.

The announcement comes after the LCBO announced Friday morning that it had reached a tentative agreement with OPSEU, but the strike continued after the union said the employer refused to sign a return-to-work protocol.

Both sides accused each other of acting in bad faith, with the LCBO saying the union had made new monetary demands.

However, the LCBO issued a statement on Saturday confirming that the strike that began on July 5 would end as previously announced.

The return to work protocol signed by both parties does not provide for any new monetary element.
