Strike at EDF: one in three employees mobilized against the drop in electricity prices

One in three employees of the EDF group demonstrated on Wednesday January 26 against the government measure which aims to contain the price of electricity during the year 2022. The State, the group’s main shareholder, has asked it to sell more electricity at low cost to its competitors, in order to limit the impact of electricity on the purchasing power of the French. For the public company, this aid would harm the group since it would be equivalent to 8 billion losses. “Unacceptable” for the employees who have decided to protest.

“We are all motivated and determined to fight against the assassination of our company”, launches a demonstrator, an employee of EDF. Another adds: “We work hours for the competition, we don’t find that normal.” The decision of the State, which owns 86% of EDF, caused its share price to fall by 20%.
