Nearly 200 professionals from the Société québécoise des infrastructures loudly demonstrated Wednesday morning in Old Montreal as part of their strike.
The union represents 735 professionals who work for the Société québécoise d’infrastructures. They are on their second day of strike on Wednesday. They will return to work on Thursday, after demonstrating on Tuesday in Quebec and Wednesday in Montreal.
These union members, members of a local section of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), affiliated with the FTQ, voted 89.7% in February for a five-day strike mandate. They will therefore have three days of strike remaining.
Salary is the main point in dispute. CUPE reports a high staff turnover rate.
These workers are engineers, real estate advisors, architects, project managers, who take care of the planning and management of projects related to government buildings owned by the SQI, such as seniors’ homes and renovations. schools, hospitals, courthouses or detention centers.
