Letter to Francois Legault
Having lived for more than twenty years in a riding in which the results (provincial and federal elections) do not vary one iota from one election to another, I still make it my duty to go and vote knowing full well that the candidates of my choice will not be elected. Each time, the only and slim consolation that remains to me is the weak financial contribution which the party of my choice will receive as well as my participation in the percentage of votes.
By making them realize how lucky they are to live in a democracy, I tirelessly urge my four children to exercise their right to vote. In light of the results of the most recent elections and the distortions they engender, I have very few arguments left to convince them to continue to participate in the democratic process. They still have the sad impression that their vote has no value.
However, you had the opportunity to innovate, even to go down in history by reforming the voting system to allow for better representativeness. You continue, alas, to give up trying to move forward. Worse, you have reneged on your signature and your solemn commitment to reform the voting system. This lack of honesty contributes to disillusioned cynicism and contributes to the difficulty of transmitting the importance of participating in the democratic process to future generations. If the occasion remains good, opportunism is obviously what drives you. Know that it is your lack of height, Mr. Legault, that will be remembered.
