Strategic error: Paul St-Pierre Plamondon makes an about-face on the third link

Do you remember the psychodrama surrounding the candidacy of Pascal Paradis as a candidate and his prior exchanges with the CAQ on the third link?

Mr. Paradis made it known publicly that he had been approached by the Prime Minister’s office to wear the colors of the CAQ during the previous general elections.

During these exchanges, he would have expressed his sovereignist and social democratic beliefs.

Better yet, Mr. Paradis told us that he would have explicitly made known his opposition to the third plan and that he would have been told that, in any case, this project was destined for certain death.

Reminder

Why am I recalling this story? Because the PQ seems to be changing position.

Indeed, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon no longer excludes the construction of a third link after having opposed it for several years.

It is still a spectacular turnaround that is surprising.

First, because the Parti Québécois is largely in the polls, despite its historical opposition to the famous link between Quebec and Lévis. He even dominates voting intentions in the Quebec region. This shows that voters in the national capital are not looking to vote for the one who will build the famous infrastructure, but rather for the one who most respects their intelligence by avoiding making them promises without having the intention of carrying them out.

Beliefs

Then, the success of the Parti Québécois is mainly based on the style of politics offered: since the arrival of PSPP, we have played on the fact that we take responsibility, even when choices are unpopular, that we give the truth and that we respect our convictions at all costs. Pascal Paradis’ candidacy perfectly embodies these principles.

It is difficult to understand this change in strategy.

Convictions seem to be taking the edge in favor of populism. This is not what Pascal Paradis and PSPP have accustomed us to. After all, who changes a recipe that works?
