The position taken by the mayor of Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) sparks debate. The ecologist has decided that the municipality will deprive itself, during the ceremonies and receptions end of the year, foie gras in the name of animal welfare.

It is one of the flagship Christmas products now banned by the city of Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). There will be no more liver fat on the table of receptions organized by the city. The environmentalist mayor Jeanne Barseghian confirmed its commitment to France Bleu Alsace: “It’s just that at the Town Hall, we were able to set up a certain number of criteria around eco-responsibility. I am attentive to societal awareness on the issue of the animal cause “.

This position makes react in the aisles of the Christmas market, where Alsatian foie gras is present. Mickael Doriath is theone of largest producers of foie gras in Alsace. He is at the head of a family farm which fattens up to 700 ducks. He fears that this decision will make “snowball”. Contacted, the town hall recalls that this decision has already been applied and that the volumes concerned are very low.
