This is the new discovery of the political strategists of the CAQ, the semantic shift which aims to divide the population: if you are against the third link, it is because you despise the people of Quebec, the “second metropolis of Quebec”.

Posted at 9:00 a.m.

This was launched by an adviser to François Legault recently on Twitter. Stéphane Gobeil accused the opposition parties of being “condescending” and contemptuous of the people of the Capitale-Nationale. “They give up representing the people of Quebec,” he said.

Is this really how the CAQ wishes to define the terms of the debate surrounding an investment of more than $6 billion? An infrastructure whose usefulness has not yet been demonstrated since no study has yet been presented?

This is not serious.

Those who oppose the third link, or who ask very legitimate questions about it (including several recently converted CAQ candidates), have nothing against the people of Quebec. There are even people from Quebec who doubt the relevance of this project. Talk to Mayor Bruno Marchand, who has already questioned it publicly. Are we accusing him of contempt and condescension towards his fellow citizens too?

If it were to come true, the 3e link would have major impacts on the environment and public finances. Can we discuss it?

We must refuse to fall into the trap of divisive politics. We do not despise the city of Quebec or its inhabitants when we question the project of 3e link.
